Key Responsibilities
  • Direct & Indirect Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to inmates in various settings, including intake/booking, sick call, emergency in-housing, chronic care clinics, and the medical unit
  • Assessment & Documentation: Perform assessments of both normal and abnormal adult and juvenile health status; communicate findings verbally and in writing 
  • Care Planning: Identify inmate needs, make timely referrals, and initiate care in accordance with institutional policies and procedures 
  • Implementation & Safety: Execute nursing and medical care orders safely and cost-effectively; document care and medically directed treatments
  • Inmate Education: Provide health education as part of total patient care 
  • Shift Management: Participate in on-coming/off-going shift reports, ensure shift preparedness, and communicate needs to maintain safe, effective care 
  • Collaboration: Work cohesively with healthcare professionals, security officers, and other staff
  • Infection Prevention & Control: Apply infection prevention and control expertise in correctional settings 
  • Delegation & Communication: Delegate tasks appropriately, maintain an organized workspace, and communicate effectively
Qualifications
  • Licensure: Valid RN license in Minnesota 
  • Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred 
  • Experience: Mid-level experience preferred; some positions may accept candidates with less experience 
  • Skills: Patient safety, care plan development, clinical documentation, referral coordination, change management, and communication
